Inspiration
Being an engineering undergraduate, making assignments for college, writing codes for different projects is the part of my daily routine. Sharing those files with other people when we are in a group becomes difficult sometime as sometimes we are on our college computer or server and I don't think its a good idea to open google drive with my email on those computers as anyone can look into my mails, So, I with one of my friend decided to make a google drive link thing which will be more easier to use and much safer as we also planned to make it decentralized.
What it does
It is a cloud where we can create folders, upload files and links and can access it from anywhere.
How we built it
We built it using JavaScript taking the help of ReactJs which is a library of JavaScript for frontend and we used Firebase for database, authentication and backend.
Challenges we ran into
We were working on firebase for the authentication and backend purpose and due to some reasons, we had to pause this project for almost 2-3 months and that was the time when the Firebase codebase was updated to a newer version, so we had to read the documentation again to fix our app and make it updated.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we completed this website that we wanted and we are even using it for our day to day purposes. We made our application very simple to use and user friendly. We made it responsive for all screen sizes.
What we learned
We learned different concepts in ReactJs in depth, such as hooks like useEffect, useReducer, etc and we also learnt to integrate our website with firebase and deploying it to the we using vercel and netlify.
What's next for ExtraSpace
In the upcoming version, we are trying to make it decentralised with the help of Blockchain Technology, since we are still in learning phase, so it can take some time but ExtraSpace will be decentralised soon.
