An extension that helps people learn about creating extensions for TwilioQuest seemed like a good idea since it could inspire others to create more extensions that could help people.
What it does
It is and extension for TwilioQuest that covers the basics steps of developing an extension for TwilioQuest using information from the official TwilioQuest Extension Guide
How we built it
We used the TwilioQuest template repository and created our extension from there. We edited the map using Tiled and used the TwilioQuest extension docs to learn about developing extensions for the game. Our level is called Extenception and covers some of the steps required to creating a TwilioQuest extension. We used the TwilioQuest extension docs as reference and the guides inside the level are very similar to them. We added things that we felt might be useful to a new developer and also things from TwilioQuest Docs that helped us create this extension itself. We also incorporated some conversation with Cedric to explain some things to the user. We use the file system module in node to verify is the folders and files required to create levels exists during validation. We also stored the extension location and level name as an environment variable inside TwilioQuest for future references.
Challenges we ran into
Working with a new software and going through its documentation and solving unknown problems We wanted to create a multi-environment overlapping mission to showcase the different amazing assets in the game to inspire people but because of the time constraints ended up creating a simpler level which also looks quite good. This goes to show that even for a smaller level the different assets for different environments in TwilioQuest can be used to create beautiful levels.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Created a quest within such short time and learned something exquisite.
What we learned
How to create a level for the Fog Owl VR Training Computer and planning needed for creating a story based game.
What's next for Extenception
Will make it multi-level with more complex graphics and if possible add personalized obstacles Hopefully, when we are able to create worlds for the Cloud in TwilioQuest, we would like to work on this more and create this into an multi-layered adventure with overlapping environments as we originally planned, more story elements and more environments.
