Inspiration

We were inspired by the lack of a clean, visually pleasing site to navigate community spaces in Surrey.

What it does

It provides a clean framework that users can utilize to navigate and get to community spaces such as green spaces in a clean and visually appealing way.

How we built it

We built it entirely in Figma. The first hour and a half were spent sketching on paper our ideas, and the next hour getting our branding in order.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest issues was the map, how could we convey as many info as possible without clogging the space with too much? Unlike Google Maps, our map is minimalist yet clean, and promotes community while staying within a clean and visual framework.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The amount of detail and care that went into tailoring each and every information. We have over 40 pins, and each was made carefully and placed specially to ensure it reflected the community's needs and ideas.

What we learned

We learned Figma was a powerful tool capable of creating great websites. However, like all tools, they are hard to master. This website allowed us to learn and explore how to manage our time and efforts to create the perfect site.

What's next for exploreSurrey

Improvements of the design can always go a long way, and we hope it reaches the communities discussed in it and beyond! Surrey is a multicultural city, with many diverse people from diverse backgrounds, it is important to recognize that communities across Surrey all look different from one another and may have different needs. However, one need stay the same: the need to connect, and the need to get to those connections. Creating this framework, allowing ourselves to be guided by the Sustainable Development Goals number 9, 11, and 15, helped us shape this website and better understand Surrey as a growing community.
