Inspiration
We want to present W&M campus in a creative and fun way. Learning history itself is always boring, but if we can design some attractive games like puzzles, people's curiosity and desire to conquer will bring them to our website and learn about W&M history in a more entertaining way.
What it does
By clicking on different locations on the W&M main campus map, you can see the puzzle game for differernt statue locating on the selcted position. This cute puzzle game is embedded in a story map with geolocations of each statue clearly visualized. After successfully restore the pattern for the puzzle, you will learn about the locations, appearances, and history of each person in the puzzle. Play it and study it!
How we built it
We built the puzzle game based on HTML, Javascript, and CSS. Most of the functions and syntax are self learned from internet during the two days of hackathon. We used Javascript to achieve the interactions required to play the puzzle game, enabling the choose of difficulty mode. By creating a frameset in html, we seperate up the website page into the puzzle on the left and the map on the right. Each cute logo of the statue shown on the map is hyperlinked to the corresponding statue picture in the puzzle game. Finally, we embeded this puzzle website into Arcgis, using a Storymap to create tour maps and geodata visualizations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our creative way to introduce the histroy of William & Mary to the public, through fun puzzle games and vivid visualization! We are proud of our artful combination of Arcgis and web development tools. We are all novices of web dev skills before coming to Cypher, but we learned actively and effectively within these 36 hours and we made great accomplishments!
