Inspiration
My inspiration for Explore Justice is my own frustration regarding the lack of an environment where users can access reliable, local and personal news from a variety of sources.
What it does
Explore Justice is a simple collection of resources aimed for local activists.
How we built it
I referenced the dvhacks Web Development workshop and the Web Devloper's Virtual Library to create this project.
Challenges we ran into
I've had less than 12 hours of experience using HTML and CSS so figuring out ways to do things such as making new pages and adding a comment section section proved to be difficult. Through a lot of trial and error I figured out a bunch of ways to add the functions I wanted.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of the fact that I worked with a tool that I had no prior experience in. I found it to be an amazing learning experience and have gained a new interest in web development.
What we learned
While my HTML is far from perfect, I still learned a lot about Web Development by doing this project. For example I learned how there are many ways of adding features into a website, some being much easier than others.
What's next for Explore Justice
My goals are to add a wider variety of sources, add a section where users can post their personal experiences/opinions without having to email me and to continue to improve upon the idea of having an all-encompassing source for local news. I also want to improve upon my HTML to make it easier to replicate the website if other users want to create their own version for their local area and include more javascript and css into my final product.
