Expiry mitra application interface showing medicine labels upload and blockchain based verification
-
Expiry mitra compares the uploaded medicine label with Blockchain data and detects a mismatch
-
Expiry mitra checks the medicine details and confirms that it is authentic and not fake
-
Expiry mitra detects a fake medicine by checking and finding no valid Blockchain record
Inspiration - We were inspired by a real incident where a family member suffered side effects after taking an expired or fake medicine. This made us realize the need for an easy way to verify medicines.
What it does - Expiry Mitra helps people verify medicines by extracting expiry and batch details from an image and storing the record securely on blockchain.
How we built it - We built a React web app, used Tesseract.js for OCR, and used Solidity, Web3.js, and MetaMask to store data on blockchain.
Challenges we ran into - We faced issues connecting blockchain with the frontend and improving OCR accuracy for different medicine strips.
Accomplishments that we're proud of - We successfully built a working prototype that combines OCR, blockchain, and a web app to solve a real-life problem.
What we learned - We learned how OCR works, how blockchain stores data, and how to connect smart contracts with a frontend.
What's next for Expiry Mitra - We plan to improve OCR accuracy, build a mobile app, and work with pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies.
