Inspiration

The main inspiration for making an expense tracker website is to have a platform where all the UTD students can evaluate transactions and analyze their money spending. As a freshman in college living in the dorms, I know the struggles of handling money and knowing that it's hard to keep track of all the expenses on track. So having this expense tracker website makes the job much easier and visually displaces how much money you spend on daily necessities. It is also always to budget and sufficient their money usage.

What it does

This expense tracker website allows you to organize your spending and budget money in a better way. This website has many features such as adding and deleting expenses and gives you a wide range of different categories in which you can pick what type of expense the cost is. The website also has a feature where you can choose on what date and how much amount you spent on that expense by having this feature you can have a tracking system on what days you spend money and how much you spend it. Having a website that can help you budget your money better can help you achieve academic and financial goals. A budget tracker or an expense tracker will also help you prepare for unexpected expenses and obstacles. As a freshman trying to balance school and figuring out my new life outside of living with my parents is difficult and having a budgeting system can help solve challenges in making decisions and setting goals that can help in the long run.

How we built it

We built this expense tracker website by using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The platform where we made this is by using Visual codes. We mainly use HTML with a combination of CSS for structuring and styling and JavaScript was mainly used to add interactions and functionality that allows you to view all the expenses in a data format, add new expenses and delete expenses, calculate the total costs, and etc.

Challenges we ran into

A few of the main challenges we ran into were coding in HTML and CSS was completely new to us and especially from coming from a background of basic coding experience it was difficult to make a full-fledged program. Other problems these faced were in compiling and where to put what parts of the code in order to make the whole website flow well together.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are really proud of making a full-fledged working website that will be helpful to you today to all UTD students and their daily life lives. This website will make the job of keeping track of your daily expenses and monitoring your spending habits much easier and more organized.

What we learned

We learned how to build websites using HTML CSS and JavaScript and we also learned and got the experience of being a part of our first hackathon.

What's next for Expense Tracker

If we have a 2.0 version of our SpendWize we are thinking of extending the app in a way where you can not only track personal and day-to-day expenses but also track expenses that you share with multiple people such as your roommates, friends, etc. A comment section where the users or user can add comments and descriptions for their spending and another feature we are thinking of adding in our next version would be to have a camera option in which the user can take a picture and upload their bill and receipts into the expense column.
