๐Ÿง  Inspiration

Living with roommates in the GCC, I constantly struggled to track shared expenses like groceries, rent, and household items. We used notebooks or group chats, which led to confusion and uneven settlements. This inspired me to create a simple digital ledger to manage group expenses easily and transparently.

๐Ÿ’ผ What it does

The app lets groups (like roommates or flatmates) log shared expenses, see who paid what, calculate balances, and settle dues. It mimics a real-life expense notebook but in a clean, digital format. No login is required in the basic version โ€” just open, enter, and track.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ How I built it

I built the app using Bolt.new, a no-code tool that allowed rapid development of the frontend UI. For backend storage and group management, I integrated Supabase, enabling persistent data across sessions. The UI was designed with a mobile-first approach for better accessibility.

๐Ÿงฑ Challenges I ran into

  • Getting data to persist without login was tricky at first
  • Figuring out how to manage group logic and user roles using a no-code tool
  • Ensuring the app stayed simple, even as I added more features

๐Ÿ† Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  • Built a functional MVP without writing traditional code
  • Created a usable solution to a real-world problem I personally faced
  • Learned how to integrate Supabase with Bolt.new effectively

๐Ÿ“š What I learned

  • How to simplify a real-world workflow into a usable UI
  • The power of no-code tools in rapid prototyping
  • How backend integrations work in no-code environments
  • The value of user-centric design and feedback

๐Ÿ”ฎ What's next for Expense Sharing App

  • Adding WhatsApp reminders for rent and bills
  • Gamification features like badges and a Hall of Fame
  • Partnerships with local supermarkets and food chains for discount offers
  • Full mobile app rollout (Android & iOS)
  • Multi-language support and better personalization features

Built With
