Through the countless hours we have spent applying for jobs and internships, something that truly stood out as a significant inconvenience for us was the fact that each time we applied for said positions we had to consistently fill out applications with the same personal information for each company. When introduced to the challenge of figuring out what to do with bit camp, we had immediately agreed on the same idea being to be a resume generator.
What it does
The website consists of the capabilities to create a uniform resume "application" that would allow for the user to fill out their personal information once and have it translated into a JSON file so that it could be easily transmitted to employers allowing them to filter out the necessary information they require while also allowing the user/applicant to only have to fill out the application once, saving significant time.
How we built it
We worked together by properly dividing up work based on each group member's strongest skills to set up the webserver, front end, back end, and proper formatting. Through the entirety of the event, we provided "as-needed" assistance to each to help out when our fellow group members ran into issues corresponding to their assigned/ preferred tasks.
Challenges we ran into
For the longest time, we had issues with figuring out how to obtain SSL certifications, but through consistent research and determination, we eventually figured out how to obtain the needed certification.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The biggest and most significant accomplishment we are proud of is the experience and knowledge we gained throughout the process of developing and launching our application. Coming into the event we had very limited experience regarding most of what we worked with the past couple of days, and through a ton of Googling, Stack Overflow, and assistance from the other group members, we can gladly walk away from this event saying that we learned a ton and developed significantly as future industry professionals.
What we learned
We learned how to navigate the Google Cloud infrastructure, launch and maintain servers, work with Vue.js as well as Node.js, and finally incorporate and utilize JSON files in relation to our application.
What's next for Exfluence: Open Résumé Format
We hope to continue gaining invaluable knowledge through developing new applications that other users could potentially find use in. At the end of the day, our number one hope is to continue learning by working in hands-on projects that will provide us the first-hand experience we need to further our respective professional careers. Through this, we hope to create said applications that might be of use to any future user.
