We were inspired by a love for fun and an interest in using APIs more extensively.

The website gives you an excuse personalized by your location and recent news event
How we built it
Challenges we ran into
We were initially going to build an excuse maker that referenced local news stories. We were having difficulty finding an API that could accurately pinpoint news by specific location, so we changed tactics.
Chris handled most of the parsing, and he did a wonderful job handling the difficult components.

Successfully using an API!
What we learned
It is easy to bite off more than you can chew, but even if you do get a little ambitious, you can learn a lot from the experience.
What's next for Excuser
We were extremely close to implementing random images for the user to select as an inspiration for their excuse. We are in the process of using the Clarifai API to generate tag words for those random images and use the most popular result as the keyword for our news search.
