Inspiration
We’ve all experienced that moment: saying “yes” to a plan in the excitement of the moment, only to regret it later. Whether it's a party, a group outing, or a last-minute meeting, the real challenge isn’t just skipping the event — it's crafting an excuse that sounds believable enough that no one questions it.
This everyday social dilemma inspired us to create ExcuseCraft, a fun and dynamic excuse-generation engine. The idea was simple: instead of stressing over what to say, users can type the event they want to skip and instantly receive a creative, hyper-specific excuse that feels natural and convincing.
What it does
ExcuseCraft is a web-based excuse generator that helps users quickly create believable reasons to skip events or plans. The user simply enters the event they want to avoid (like a party, meeting, or outing), and the website generates a detailed and convincing excuse.
The goal of the project is to make it easier — and more fun — for people to handle socially awkward situations where they want to cancel plans. Instead of struggling to think of what to say, the app instantly provides a creative excuse that sounds natural and realistic.
How we built it
using simple css and html.
Challenges we ran into
While the idea sounded simple at first, we encountered several challenges during development:
Designing a clean layout: Arranging buttons and sections in a way that looked visually balanced required experimenting with CSS grids and spacing.
Creating believable excuses: We had to think carefully about how excuses should sound realistic and detailed enough to feel convincing.
Keeping the interface simple: Since we were working with only HTML and CSS, we had to creatively structure elements to make the website feel interactive and engaging.
Each challenge pushed us to experiment, learn new layout techniques, and improve our design approach.
