Inspiration
I saw many professors creating different variants of exams for different students. This inspired me to build a web application that can generate exams in just one click, with different numbers of questions and different difficulty levels. Then I thought: why should it only be useful for professors? Students could also use it to prepare for their exams. So, I added features such as an AI chatbot tutor that helps students understand questions and a document summarization feature.
What it does
ExamForge allows users to upload multiple PDFs or DOCX documents and automatically generate exams from their study material. Users can customize: The number of questions ,Question types ,Difficulty level ,Exam content based on their uploaded documents It also includes an AI tutor that helps students understand exam questions and discuss their answers. Users can also generate a summary of an entire PDF or document to quickly review their study material.
How we built it
ExamForge was built using the MERN stack and Google Gemini API with a RAG architecture.
Challenges we ran into
Some of the major challenges we faced were: Extracting and processing large PDF documents efficiently,Handling API rate limits,Managing long-running AI requests,Improving the reliability of the application,Designing the system to handle multiple users and requests efficiently
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The biggest thing I'm proud of is what I learned about reliability and scalability while building ExamForge. I learned how to handle API limitations, long-running requests, concurrency, streaming responses, and backend processes in a way that makes the application more reliable and capable of handling more users.
What we learned
Through this project, I learned how to design and improve a web application for scalability, reliability, and better user experience. I also gained practical experience working with RAG, AI APIs, document processing, SSE streaming, concurrency control, and backend optimization
What's next for Exam Generator
The next goal for ExamForge is to create an Auto checker in it And introduce a Team Mode, where multiple students can use the same study material, generate exams together, and discuss documents in real time. I also want to add an AI-powered game mode inspired by quiz games, where students can compete with each other while learning and preparing for exams.
