Inspiration

The inspiration behind SmartEssayGrader stemmed from the challenges educators face in manually grading essay-based assessments, which can be time-consuming and subjective. We wanted to create a solution that automates the grading process while maintaining the integrity of assessment.

What We Learned

Throughout the development of SmartEssayGrader, we gained insights into the capabilities of AI in educational technology. We learned how to integrate advanced AI tools to analyze and evaluate student responses effectively. Additionally, we discovered the importance of user-friendly interfaces and intuitive design for enhancing the user experience.

How We Built the Project

SmartEssayGrader was built using a combination of Google's Generative AI tools, Langchain for natural language processing, and Streamlit for the user interface. We utilized Langchain for document loading, embeddings, and vector storage, enabling efficient processing of essay responses. Google's Generative AI tools provided the foundation for intelligent assessment and grading functionalities.

Challenges Faced

One of the main challenges we faced was ensuring the accuracy and consistency of the classification process. As the evaluation differs from one human corrector to another, and on the other hand, the correction with Gemini also differs in that it understands the answers differently each time.
