Inspiration
Exam season is a challenging time for students, marked by long nights, stress and overwhelm. Conventional study planners do not address their emotional fluctuations or help them adapt to unexpected challenges.
Exam Companion is designed to help students study more effectively while prioritizing their mental well-being. It empowers students to manage their workload thoughtfully and approach exams with greater control.
What it does
Exam Companion automates study planning:
- Parses course content from PDFs or pasted text.
- Calculates available study time based on user’s exam date & busy hours.
- Generates a customized daily schedule using AI.
- Exports the schedule to PDF or Google Calendar for easy tracking.
Aligned with the Social Good theme, it tackles issues that impacts students’ academic success and quality of life. It helps learners thrive, not just survive, during exam season.
How we built it
We started by mapping real student pain points during exam season, then translating them into actionable features. Using agile development, we built a responsive study planner that integrates mood and routine tracking.
Our stack pairs a clean, intuitive front-end with a lightweight back-end for efficient data handling. We embedded adaptive logic that modifies study sessions dynamically.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating mood-tracking inputs posed a major hurdle, as we needed the system to process data quickly while staying lightweight. Time constraints forced tough prioritization, but this sharpened our teamwork and decision-making skills.
What we learned
Developing Exam Companion taught us that productivity tools must protect mental well-being as they boost efficiency. We learned to design with empathy, to ensure schedules work with the student’s life, not against it.
What's next for Exam Companion
Looking ahead, we envision Exam Companion becoming more accessible and impactful. We plan to add multi-language support so students worldwide can use it in their native languages, and improve AI parsing to handle more complex PDFs. Partial study plans with difficulty weighting for various topics will let users focus on challenging subjects. Integration with Google Calendar will automatically sync schedules, ensuring timely reminders. A mobile-friendly layout will allow students to manage and track their progress on the go.
