Inspiration
We were inspired by the sense of hopelessness individual contribution to global sustainability efforts truly are. This alongside the biref inspired us to create Ecovest
What it does
Ecovest informs users and provides transperency of sustainability practices on the companies they invest it. It is common for people to not really know what they are funding, and being ignorant gives these corporations power to continue there practices. In 2004, BP coined the term 'carbon footprint' blaming the individual for sustainability and environmental impact instead of the corporations which do the most damage
How we built it
We built our product in Figma using from design tokens (colours, buttons, typography) to make it faster for us to convert our sketches into hi-fidelity wireframes. As we did not have a pro or edu team, we had to design on the design system file itself. This also limited our capabilities with advanced prototyping, being unable to use variables and variants together.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a few challenges on how we wanted to approach the issue, which is quite hard to overcome when people are sleep deprived, exhausted and we have a strict deadline. We gave eachother a lot of freedom to work and see how their vision manifested to make it easier for us to make these decision. Trust and freedom were key in our success. We also did not have as much time as others. All of our team members had commitments either last the night before the designathon, on saturday and on sunday! So we tried our best to get it all done to the best of our ability
What we learned
- sustainability investment (none of us had a investment / business background and this was a big hurdle at the start!)
- double diamond structure for project development
- working under extreme pressure
- overcoming differences fast / rapid conflict resolution
What's next for Ecovest
If this product was real, the business side would be a priority with the potential to become a real, profitable business. Companies such as CMC pay companies like Morning star for their in-depth stock reports, but these reports do not talk about sustainability and where your money is going / funding. As the sustainability practices continue to grow this will only become more important in the investment world.
