Inspiration:
We were inspired by the desire to bring people together through shared experiences and events. In a world where technology has made us more connected, yet often isolated, we saw an opportunity to create a platform that fosters real-world connections.
What it does:
EVNTS is a social media app that uses network graph algorithms to recommend events based on their popularity, relevance to your network, and overall "connectedness" in terms of all events.
How we built it:
The back end is a Neo4j graph database with nodes and relationships representing events, users, follows, attendees, and more. The front end is built with Next.js, TypeScript, and React.
Challenges we faced
One of the biggest challenges we faced was integrating the front end UI with the back end to query the database. We also had some feature overload at the start of the project, but we were able to focus well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
developing an entire full-stack application in under 48 hours using unfamiliar technologies and starting from scratch. Implementing a recommendation system which will match events to you based on their relevance. Designing a beautiful front-end with intuitive navigation and a clean look.
What we learned:
Front-and back-end technologies, end-to-end development, ideation, testing.
What's next for Evnts:
Our goal is to continue improving the user experience and expanding our reach. In the future, we plan to add new features, such as event creation and group management, to make EVNTS the ultimate platform for connecting through shared experiences.
