Inspiration
Our team was inspired by recent events highlighted in the media, as well as the long historical challenges people of various racial, gender, and educational backgrounds have encountered in the recruitment process.
What it does
Evn is a website where the hiring process is based on merit & qualifications by removing unconscious biases such as race, gender, physical attributes, education, cultural, and social. A job seeker can upload their credentials anonymously, and get recommendations on jobs they are qualified to apply for. Additionally recruiters are able to post job listings, and their list of applicants is ranked on the order of qualifications
How we built it
We built this website by utilizing the React library and Material UI to build the front-end, and using the Firestore Database section of Firebase.
Challenges we ran into
Some of the challenges that our team faced included dealing with dependency issues, styling components of the website, and git versioning.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of developing the business model for the website. As all of us are computer science majors, we do not spend time in class on developing that skillset. We were able to come up with a business model that would be eligible in the real world.
What we learned
Our team learned more about developing applications utilizing React and Firebase. In addition, we also learned about business development and creating a Minimum Viable Product.
What's next for evn
The next step for evn is to incorporate natural language processing into the job seeker segment of the website, in order to parse a user's resume. In addition, ranking the job applicants using machine learning to find the most qualified applicants is another thing on our list. Finally, incorporating a voice chat feature into the service that obfuscates the voice in order to reduce bias is another feature that we would like to have in the future.
