College campuses are full of underused items. Vacuums, speakers, decorations, tools, and appliances sit idle in dorm rooms and apartments while students repeatedly buy things they will only use once. Group chats are chaotic, Facebook posts go unanswered, and there is no accountability if something breaks. We saw millions of dollars in redundant purchases happening across campuses and realized the infrastructure to share already exists. It just is not organized.
EVIT is a campus verified rental marketplace where students rent what they need from each other instead of buying it.
Users can list items they are willing to rent out or post requests for items they need. Every account is verified through a university email. Rentals are time bound. Payments and deposit holds happen in app to protect both sides. Ratings and reviews build trust over time.
EVIT turns idle dorm room items into accessible campus inventory.
We built EVIT as a mobile first marketplace experience.
We created a listing and request system using a two sided marketplace model. We structured time bound rental scheduling. We built simulated in website payment and deposit logic. We incorporated a ratings and review framework. Our focus was on creating a frictionless and intuitive user experience that mirrors how students already behave, but with structure and accountability built in.
Challenges we ran into was being able to integrate the email verification and in app payment methods, but made the framework and what it would look like.
We clearly defined a real and recurring campus pain point.
We transformed something currently handled through messy group chats into a structured solution.
We developed a scalable go to market strategy that could include campus ambassadors, Greek life partnerships, and housing integrations.
We validated a strong addressable market with multibillion dollar transaction potential.
Most importantly, we built something that feels native to college culture. We plan to pilot on a single campus to test liquidity and pricing behavior.
We will recruit early anchor listers such as student organizations and event focused groups.
We will launch a campus ambassador program.
We will integrate real payment processing and deposit escrow.
We will collect user feedback and refine matching and notifications.
Our long term goal is to expand across campuses and become the default rental infrastructure for college communities.
