Inspiration

We were inspired by the inequitable access to essential services in car-dependent areas like Pomona, LA. Residents in socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods often struggle to reach clinics, food banks, schools, and community centers. We wanted to create a solution that improves access, promotes sustainability, and rewards users for making equitable mobility choices.

What it does

Evio is a GeoAI-powered app that guides users to essential services through low-cost, eco-friendly routes. It incentivizes travel with rewards such as cash-back or transit discounts, with higher rewards for users in underserved neighborhoods. The app helps residents access vital services while encouraging sustainable travel habits.

How we built it

We mapped essential service locations using GIS data and designed a user-friendly prototype in Figma/Loveable. GeoAI concepts were integrated to suggest environmentally friendly and equitable routes. QR code check-ins at service locations trigger rewards, demonstrating both the routing functionality and the reward system.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing sustainability with equity-based routing was difficult—finding routes that were both low-carbon and feasible for underserved areas. Designing an interface that is simple, inclusive, and transparent about data use and rewards was another challenge. Ensuring ethical use of location data while maintaining a realistic prototype also required careful planning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-Developed a fully functional UI/UX prototype integrating GIS and reward mechanics. -Designed a system that promotes equity, accessibility, and sustainability simultaneously. -Incorporated ethical and privacy considerations from the start.

What we learned

We learned the importance of user-centered design, how GeoAI can optimize routing for social impact, and how to thoughtfully integrate ethical principles into technology. We also gained experience balancing technical feasibility with real-world social challenges.

What's next for Evio

-Implement live GIS integration with real-time transit data. -Expand accessibility features for users with disabilities and low tech literacy. -Introduce gamified rewards and community-driven features to increase engagement. -Test and iterate with real users in underserved neighborhoods to refine equity and sustainability metrics.
