Inspiration
Evimer was inspired by the blatant problem of excess book waste among students, where perfectly good textbooks are left to waste at the end of each semester. Our platform encourages the reconsumption of these books and promotes sustainable practices that benefit the environment and reduce unnecessary spending.
What it does
Evimer is a student-to-student marketplace for students at Michigan State University to easily buy and sell textbooks at a much lower cost. This will help students save money; it also plays a very critical role in reducing waste, promoting a cycle of reuse that supports sustainability.
How we built it
We have implemented Evimer on a React-based frontend for a seamless user experience and on a robust Java Spring Boot backend, which handles secure transactions and data management. Integration with MySQL ensures database solutions for maintaining user data and listing books. Our approach focused on the creation of a responsive and intuitive interface that makes buying and selling as easy as a few clicks.
Challenges we ran into
Among these, building real-time updates with proper security and designing an AI-driven recommendation system that would actually predict user preferences was the big challenge. Another big challenge is balancing usability with high functionality in UI/UX design.
Accomplishments that We Are Proud Of
We are proud, but more so because we created a platform that will not only facilitate easier transactions but also promote environmental sustainability. This included the implementation of a secure, scalable solution for real-time data exchange with very minimal latency. In addition, we succeeded in creating a community platform that fosters sustainable habits among students-a factor very close to the core of our mission.
What we learned
In the making of Evimer, we found out about some of the problems with handling live data and implementing strong security concerns in a web marketplace. It was user behavioral analysis that brought forth further refining of our artificial intelligence algorithms. We enhanced full-stack development as well, integrated various technologies together into a comprehensive application.
Evimer: What's Next
In the future, Evimer will add features like real-time payment processing, messaging between buyer and seller for safety, and an AI bot customer support feature. We intend to introduce a podcasting feature whereby users will be able to share knowledge across many categories, making Evimer a one-stop platform for students to interact and learn from one another. As we scale, we will continue to add more categories of goods at affordable prices, making Evimer a one-stop shop for student needs. Our ultimate goal is to develop into a startup that will serve not just MSU students but can be replicated for use at other universities in the quest to foster sustainability and community support around the globe.
