Inspiration
As students we found that the feeling of anxiousness and panic often overcame us before tests or big presentations. This shared feeling is what we felt tended to occupy our minds and disrupt our mental well-being. We also then realized that these feelings aren’t simply what students face but most people feel this in whatever position they are in life.
What it does
Evexia is a Webapp, that allows users to choose methods to help calm themselves down depending on the level of anxiety or panic they are feeling. The application also has an emergency button for those who are experiencing intense panic attacks.
Evexia also offers a Log section. Within this section, the user can input and track their moods throughout the month as well as the right daily diary accounts to vent or relieve stress. Furthermore, when they are feeling anxiety or panic the mindfulness section of the app allows them to partake in different calming activities of different levels based on how their feeling. The Webapp also offers a 5-4-3-2-1 game which is very useful in moments of intense panic. Users can then also practice this without using the app later on. In terms of user experience, Evexia offers a plethora of options for the user to use for their anxiety or panic. Furthermore, the web app is fairly simple to navigate and use the features of it through various buttons as well as being able to easily access pages from one to another.
How we built it
We used HTML for the structure, CSS for styling , Javascript for the interactive calendar feature. Along with Javascript, we used an open source code--p5.js
Challenges we ran into
Through the development of this webapp we faced many challenges. For example when creating the mood log the javascript was not displaying or on html the buttons would not play the needed audio. However, we discovered that when it comes to developing webapps google and mentors are your best friend. After doing a bunch of trial and error we got our webapp to work. Furthermore, by talking to mentors like Astawa we were able to visualize our pitch more as well and it had helped us greatly in creating our video.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our team is proud of completing our web application through these 36 hours. We developed new skills and were able to see our effort pay off with a final product!
What we learned
We learned more about web development and about mental health as a whole. More specifically, we learned more about anxiety and how it the most common mental disorder in the world.
What's next for evexia
In the future, we are looking to partner with organizations such as the Canadian Mental Health Association. We will be able to share their resources on our app and their endorsement will increase our reliability.
