Inspiration

One of our team members has family working in the healthcare industry, and they highlighted many of the issues they saw daily. One of the most pressing issues was emergency room wait times, and another interesting issue was usability problems with the current electronic medical record system, or lack thereof. We decided to tackle both.

What it does

With this app, patients are able to show healthcare providers their medical histories right from their phone, cutting time spent searching for medical records, encouraging healthcare providers to make more informed decisions for their patients, and allowing more patients to be attended to.

How we built it

The database was built with sqlalchemy, the backend is in flask and the frontend is in vue3.

Challenges we ran into

One big challenge we ran into was there was no feasible way for us to maximize all 3 design objectives - security, speed, and ease of use. With the time and knowledge constraints in place, we had to prioritize certain aspects over others.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

An accomplishment we're proud of comes from triumphing over another major challenge we had, which was thinking of an idea for this hackathon. As beginners, the solution to a healthcare problem couldn't be too complex to implement while also being creative and unique. The theme was also quite broad, so it was difficult to narrow down exactly what we wanted to focus in. Eventually, we settled on something we thought could strike the balance that we were looking for.

What we learned

Security is quite difficult to implement, especially at the high levels expected for healthcare-related purposes, where any vulnerability could be exploited with very negative impacts.

What's next for Everything Medical

Improvements could be made for the security of the backend, since the nature of healthcare-related data is very sensitive. The frontend could also be improved to be even more user-friendly.
