Inspiration

I was deeply inspired by the concept of "Homework for Life" popularized by storyteller and author Matthew Dicks. This approach encourages individuals to reflect on their day and identify one meaningful or “storyworthy” moment to record. The practice cultivates mindfulness, highlights the significance of everyday experiences, and enriches life by transforming even ordinary days into memorable narratives.

Motivated by this practice, I wanted to create a tool that would enable users to write and preserve their daily stories while also offering inspiration through motivational quotes and reflective prompts. My goal was to help people cherish their everyday moments, find meaning in their lives, and develop a habit of reflection.

What it does

The app serves as a daily journaling tool, empowering users to document their everyday experiences and reflections.

A key feature of the app is its ability to inspire users through carefully curated motivational quotes and reflective prompts (both generated by the Prompt AI of Built-In for Chrome). These quotes reinforce the importance of engaging in daily journaling, while the prompts encourage users to think deeply about various aspects of their day, often allowing them to see their experiences from a fresh perspective.

Additionally, the app enables users to revisit their past reflections, complete with the original prompts that inspired them.

How I built it

  1. The app was built on Replit mostly using the Replit Agent.
  2. Motivational quotes and reflective prompts (a key feature) were generated using the Prompt API from Built-AI for Chrome.
  3. Guidance and problem-solving support were provided by ChatGPT.

Challenges I ran into

  1. Transitioning from a product management role to hands-on coding was a significant challenge due to the steep learning curve.
  2. Understanding and implementing Prompt AI integration required effort, but ChatGPT proved invaluable in generating and refining API calls.
  3. Developing code with Replit Agent was challenging due to communication difficulties—instructions often had to be repeated but resulted in incorrect outputs—and frequent bugs in the generated code, which the agent struggled to resolve effectively.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Despite having limited coding experience, I am proud to have successfully integrated Prompt AI (Chrome Built AI) with my project using Replit, as Prompt AI does not support integration with most no-code platforms. This achievement was particularly challenging given my technical constraints, but I managed to get it to work independently.

What I learned

As a product manager with limited hands-on implementation experience, participating in this hackathon has been a valuable learning journey.

  1. I gained insight into the time and effort required to explore and select the right tools and technologies for a project.
  2. I learned how to use a built-in AI.
  3. I am now confident in building products using Replit Agent.

Overall, this experience has not only deepened my appreciation for the technology but has also boosted my confidence in collaborating effectively with engineering teams.

What's next for Everyday Echo

  1. Enhanced Personalization: Provide introduce personalized quotes and prompts based on the user’s mood, interests, or past entries.
  2. Progress Tracking: Track a user’s reflection habits over time—showing progress, patterns, and key themes in their journaling. This could motivate users by showing how consistent and reflective they've been.
