Inspiration
Farmers are the cornerstone of our society and provide so much for us in terms of food and supplies. We wanted to extend to them our appreciation for their hard work.
What it does
Our application visualizes data from several hundred farms across the globe from multiple different countries. Farmers are also able to input personalized data of their farms and visually access personalized analytics in order to gain insight into their farms, predict future trends, and compare the health and other factors involving their farmland with those of other farmers.
How we built it
We built our app using Next.js, and our backend server with Flask. Our data is held in MongoDB, and we deployed our frontend and backend through Vercel and DigitalOcean.
Challenges we ran into
Having a well-designed website with a good user interface takes a lot of work to accomplish. At the beginning, utilizing Git and managing different branches and merge conflicts was also daunting. Also, visualizing data and implementing data science can be surprisingly difficult with so much data to work with.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're happy with our design and the overall feel of the application. We felt that the data science, visualizations, and features we provide are solid.
What we learned
We pushed ourselves and learned how difficult but rewarding working with other team members for a long period of time is. We also utilized new technology and gained much more experience with previous tools.
What's next for EverLeaf
To expand upon EverLeaf, we want to touch up the design, making sure everything looks fresh. Later, we want to add even more parameters for farmers to work with and utilize, and offer more features like personalized notifications.
