Inspiration
Inspiration... We've all known that behind great things there is always a source or form of inspiration. That is why we decided to create Evergreen Futures as our project. What started as a mere coding project is turning into an initiative right now! We've asked plenty of students from middle school to college and they all say the same thing: "We don't know where to start!" That is when we thought, "Why not create a platform for students that can learn more about their career and even have the opportunity to have some work experience?". We spent weeks talking to students about what they wanted, we saw what our community wanted and we knew we had to act upon it. That was when Evergreen Futures started!
What it does
We pride ourselves in helping students connect with professionals. As of right now, our demo/working prototype gives users/students access to interviews, job tips, job opportunities and internships in various fields. In the long term, we plan on implementing a mobile app that has more features that focus on the academic sector such as scholarships, college guidance, and more. For the website, we are currently focused on creating blog posts while adding the functionality to have subscribed users be sent emails of blogs/interviews uploaded on our website. We are also going to create a page for volunteers, donations, and ambassadors!
How we built it
We wanted to keep all the code very streamlined and easy to read so we just focused on creating a traditional static website but with a twist! We challenged and pushed ourselves to take inspirations from other projects and we wanted to build something that had an actual impact on the world
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a lot of challenges in the UI. As we wanted to create parallax effects, and other animation effects that would definitely refine and make the UI look better. As we were more focused on the UI part of the project, we didn't want to spread ourselves too thin and try making something complex. We wanted to create an impact. We aren't attending this hackathon just to win, but we want to help create an actual impact on the world.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are happy and grateful to inform you all that we didn't just think of this hackathon as merely a coding project. We are planning to create this project into something that has a tangible impact on this world, something that can help spread the social good and create an awesome environment for mentors and professionals to share their challenges and experiences to help students fuel their passion!
What we learned
We are grateful for attending this hackathon! In our time here, we learned that past the technical skills that we've gained from this challenge from implementing complex animations, to adapting our application with a manageable, prebuilt backend platform, to deploying it on our own custom domain, there is a meaning, an intangible purpose for every technical innovation, and ours was to transform the lives of many children and lead them in the right path, something that we previously struggled to find early in grade school.
What's next for Evergreen Futures
As we started the planning and coding phase on this project, we simply thought of it to be a hackathon idea. As we started pitching the idea to our families, friends, and classmates, we began to realize how BIG of an impact this would have on our community. "What's next?" you may ask, it's simple! We are planning to make Evergreen Futures an actual organization! We are currently looking for donations, partnerships, ambassadors, board members, and many more to develop our initiative. With hopes that this will become a big and influential social good in the future, we will be dedicating all of our time and energy into Evergreen Futures. We want to inspire students and help them connect with career professionals to actually have a goal to work towards to. We are currently looking to fundraise for our initiative so please feel free to partner or help out!
Once again, thank you everyone for viewing our project, let's make some awesome impacts in the future!
