Inspiration
We wanted to create a solution that could address the lack of real-life social connections people face in today’s digital age. We recognized that a failure in dating apps is the lack of initiative users express in carrying a relationship beyond the texting phase. In order to combat this, we wanted to make shared experiences the focal point of our app.
What it does
Our app allows users to connect with others who share the same interest or desire to participate in a certain event. We’ve created a way for users to set up events and connect with others who express interest. Similarly, users are able to reach out to others based on their own preferences. At Eventure, we’ve determined that the best way to form lasting connections is through sharing meaningful experiences.
How we built it
First we brainstormed ideas and wrote them down in a google doc. Then we wireframed and prototyped our app in Figma.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into some challenges in using Figma features that we were unfamiliar with such as the smart animate feature. This required a lot of googling and self learning. We also struggled with the logical flow of our app and making sure that all the features were cohesive with our goals.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the UI decisions we made regarding the app’s visual design. Not only is the app visually appealing, we ensured that it would conform to accessibility standards. We are also proud of the flow of our app as that was something that took a lot of time for us to perfect. After running through many different ideas and taking inspiration from different apps, we finally refined our app to function in the way that we believe would provide the greatest user experience.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the process of UI/UX and software functions we weren’t familiar with. For example we had to learn about user flows and consider different personas as our audience. We were also able to get a better understanding of the various functions within Figma and we are now a lot more comfortable navigating the operations within this software. This knowledge that we attained will certainly be applicable in the long run. We also learned a lot about how to work as a team of designers. As this is the first designathon for all of us, creating Eventure has been an enriching and insightful experience.
What's next for Eventure
Some features we are looking to implement in the future are voice and video calling. We noticed when looking through reviews of competitor apps that one of the main complaints was that the apps lacked the ability to make calls. By including this feature in the future we would be able to appeal to a wider audience. Another feature we would like to incorporate is the ability to create group profiles. Perhaps you have a small group of people looking to go to an event, you could use our app to find another person or another small group to meet up with together. The ability to create group profiles would allow users to easily find a group of people to make memories with.
