🚀 Inspiration

Event Horizon was envisioned as a Sci-Fi adventure game where users journey past a wormhole to explore the final frontier! The concept of a one-way trip with only a single message to send back intrigued me—how could it be used to its fullest potential? 🤔

Then it hit me—this is kinda like Interstellar! 😆 The idea was exciting and seemed simple enough, so I decided to bring it to life. Little did I know... this would be a mammoth task! 🏗️

🎮 What it does

Event Horizon is a community-driven, choose-your-own-adventure game built using WebViews on Devvit.

Key Features:

  • 🛠️ Create Stories – Craft and build your own narratives with the intuitive node-based story editor.
  • 🌍 Share & Explore – The community can create, share, and explore each other’s adventures.
  • ⚖️ Choice Matters – Players navigate stories, reaching either a Good Ending or a Bad Ending.
  • 📜 The Log Book – Players who reach a Bad Ending can send a 15-character message back through the wormhole to guide future explorers.
  • 📖 Community Wisdom – These cryptic messages are stored in the Node-Based Log Book, accessible to all players for strategic decision-making!

  • Flowchart-style Editing – Organize story elements in a clear, connected structure.
  • Dynamic Choices – Define multiple pathways and outcomes based on user decisions.

🔧 How we built it

  • Powered by Devvit 🏗️, utilizing WebViews for a smooth experience.
  • A node-based UI 🎨 makes storytelling and logbook navigation seamless.
  • Integrated a community-driven sharing experience via a subreddit.

😱 Challenges we ran into

  • The idea was brewing for weeks, but the real work started last minute!
  • Implementing the node-based editor in time was tough.
  • Crashes and network issues caused a full-on panic mode in the final hours!

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • 🎨 The node-based editor turned out super intuitive and fun to use.
  • 📜 The logbook mechanic adds a unique community-driven twist to storytelling!

🚀 What's next for Event Horizon

  • 🛸 Game Rooms – Private experiences where only invited users can participate.
  • 🎵 Audio Effects – The button currently does nothing... time to change that! 🔊
  • 🤖 GenAI Story Helper – AI-powered assistance to make story creation even easier!
