Inspiration

Whenever we wanted a haircut, we would have to wait hours before our chance leading to frustration or not doing the activity at all. These types of long queues exist in every local shop from parlours to dentists to restaurants and we wanted to eradicate them for good.

What it does

EventEase is a digital booking system that uses QR codes to lock event trimmings in neighbourhood shops (using a location-based search). You can sign up as a user interested in saving time or as a shop owner that is tired of people bailing on his shop due to daunting queues. Moreover, as a local shop owner, this app helps you digitalize your data. This means you can analyze your data, unlike analogue registers which are difficult to even search through.

How we built it

  • HTML5 & Tailwind CSS
  • NodeJS & ReactJS
  • Firebase

Challenges we ran into

We did not anticipate the difficulties related to connectivity between the front end and the databases. The logic looked simple enough and therefore the task was dismissed till the end when we realized it's not as trivial as we were leading ourselves to believe. We had to essentially design a "one-way social network" to connect the users and the shops. However, even after all these difficulties we were able to pull through and had a fully functioning network.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the UI as none of us consider ourselves "designers" and yet we were able to make an aesthetically pleasing and minimalistic experience for the user. We are also proud of the backend functionalities due to the sheer amount of time and effort it took to get them to fruition.

What we learned

We learnt the integration between the front and backend and the collaboration techniques needed when different people are working on those simultaneously. At the start, we were also very indecisive about the app we were going to build, not because of a lack of ideas but because of an abundance of them. We learnt that all that matters is that we are solving problems and enjoying ourselves while doing so.

What's next for EventEase

  • Use blockchain to store events in a delocalized database
  • Use ML to recommend shops nearby to the user based on his activity
    • Create a complete dashboard for the shop owners to analyze their data (for e.g. which day has the most traffic and which one has the least)
    • Review/rating system for shops to help customers find trustworthy shops more easily
    • Using live location instead of the user inputting their city/state manually
