Inspiration
Organizing events in colleges is often chaotic — from managing registrations to collecting feedback, students and organizers face many challenges. We noticed that most campuses either rely on spreadsheets or informal communication for event coordination. This inspired us to create CampusConnect, a streamlined web-based event management system that simplifies event creation, participant tracking, and post-event analysis — all in one place. With the rise of AI tools, we also saw an opportunity to integrate smart features like feedback sentiment analysis and personalized event recommendations.
What it does
CampusConnect is a role-based web application for colleges that allows: Organizers to create and manage events, view participant data, and analyze feedback. Participants to register, view events, and submit feedback. AI-based sentiment analysis on feedback to help organizers assess response quality. A clean, responsive UI for smooth interaction across devices.
How we built it
We used: Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap for responsive design. Backend: Python with Flask framework, Jinja2 templating. Database: MySQL for storing users, events, feedback, and more. Authentication: Flask-WTF, Flask-Bcrypt for secure user login. AI Integration: Hugging Face's transformers pipeline for real-time feedback sentiment analysis. Other Tools: Mediapipe (explored for gesture control), Seaborn/Matplotlib (for visualizing sentiment data).
Challenges we ran into
Integrating AI models into a Flask web app in a lightweight way without increasing load time. Structuring the database schema to support multiple user roles without complicating logic. Designing a UI that looks clean but is also informative for both organizers and participants. Managing state and session for users across different roles.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully deployed an end-to-end event management system with role-based dashboards. Integrated a real-time sentiment analysis feature using transformers — giving the project a unique AI twist. Built a clean, responsive UI that's beginner-friendly and functional. Created a solution that can be directly used in real-world college environments.
What we learned
How to integrate AI (NLP sentiment models) into web-based applications. Best practices in Flask backend development, including user management and secure login systems. How to organize code for maintainability and scalability. The importance of designing with both usability and aesthetics in mind.
What's next for Event_Management_System
Implement a recommendation engine to suggest events to users based on interests or past behavior. Allow organizers to export participant data and feedback summaries in PDF or Excel formats. Integrate more advanced feedback analytics, like keyword extraction and satisfaction scoring. Expand the platform to support multiple campuses or inter-college events. Explore gesture-based interactions using Mediapipe to make the platform more accessible.
