Inspiration

You're at a wedding having a good time catching up with friends and family. During the party you hear a large commotion where everyone's laughing and one of your good friends Joe comes and tells you an awesome story where he finishes by saying, "You just had to be there to understand". What if you had an application that prevented you from missing these moments?

What it does (and why its fun!)

1) Event Stream is an android based application that allows you to capture images/videos during an event and share it with your friends over a local network, saving you the need to waste Data and keeping your photos private and secure. 2) A centralized hub stores all the pictures shared by you and your loved ones, and puts on entertaining slideshow for the whole party to enjoy. The more you download and rate a picture, the higher its popularity and screen time. 3) If a picture that suits your tastes pops up on the big screen and catches your eye, you don't have to go find Aunt Sally and ask her for her collection of 200 photos that she, you can save yourself the time and anguish of sifting through boring photos and immediately tell Event Stream to grab you only the best .

How we built it (the technical stuff)

The phone's interface is designed on android studio using Java. Images and videos are captured using Event Sprites camera module and sent through a FTP client to a PC computer that acts as the FTP server. The FTP server uses C++ and OpenCV to dynamically create slideshows in real time with the pictures it receives. The FTP client is also used to download images and videos from the FTP server to be stored locally on another user's phone.

Challenges we ran into

We initially undertook this initiative as an endeavour to broaden our experience and background as aspiring programmers. We initially had a lot of trouble getting the app up and going, especially with programming in Android, as it was our first time using not only Android Studios, but also Java. Integration of the separate parts also proved to be quite challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were all really proud and impressed by our teammates motivation and dedication in staying up for the entire weekend and spending 100% of our efforts towards our goal. We're also proud of the complex, and yet still comprehensive, system we managed to put together.
