Inspiration
The inspiration for this project came from the chaotic schedule that every college student deals with. With so many awesome events being scheduled by clubs such as CSC, and courses throwing assignments at us with tight deadlines, we realized that a tool needed. Eventify was created in under 24 hours to solve this issue for students across the globe.
What it does
Eventify accepts user-uploaded images and uses the Google Gemini API to process, and automatically upload event information directly onto your calendar. The calendar-ing of the future!
How we built it
We used Vercel as our hosting service, Next.js for front-end development, Flask for the back-end, and Google's Gemini API for file processing and calendar creation.
Challenges we ran into
We decided to take on the challenge of combining an external hosting service with different front and back-end development frameworks. This was a new experience for all of us, however we were able to effectively work through the roadblocks to deliver a working final model.
What we learned
We discovered the strengths and weaknesses of hosting services like Vercel, the adaptability of the Gemini API, and the convenience of using frameworks like Next.js and Flask in tandem with one another. We also gained valuable experience working together as a team.
What's next for Eventify
In the future, Eventify will include a complete clipboard-to-calendar feature, in addition to existing as a chrome extension and google maps integration. In a perfect world, camera apps could integrate Eventify to allow users to add events to their calendars faster than ever!
