Enable group bookings on Square

Inspiration

Evee currently works with hundreds of merchants to provide a seamless discovery and management solution for corporate experiences. While many of these merchants use Square as their payment processor for individual purchases, they currently use a hodgepodge of tools to manage their group bookings, ranging from emails and online forms to even post-it-notes on their personal calendars.

What it does

Evee enables small to medium sized businesses to better manage their group and private events by connecting the management and planning of the event directly to the point of sale. This allows businesses to expand their offerings to include more private events without having to hire a dedicated event manager.

By using Evee, the merchant unlocks

  • A better customer experience
  • An uptick in average order volume
  • An increase in qualified leads
  • A natural viral coefficient of making multiple customers out of a single booking!

How we built it

We leveraged both buyer and seller user research to isolate the largest pain points with group bookings as well as sorting through thousands of back-in-forth emails with sellers to reduce as much friction as possible.

The platform itself is built atop of react, nodejs, redis, and postgres.

Challenges we ran into

Many of the technical challenges involved finding creative ways to abstract away appointment functionality without breaking Square’s existing appointments flows; hopefully that’ll only become easier as more functionality continues to be exposed by the new Bookings API.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of building a product to simultaneously help both seller and buyer experiences given the relative short time frame. There is simply no better words to hear when demo’ing the functionality to both sides of the market and hearing back “I NEED THAT!!!”

What we learned

The number of potential use cases with group bookings is enormous, thereby so are the edge cases. A full-fledged software solution in this space needs to emphasize flexibility while enabling merchants to seamlessly apply group booking dynamics to their business.

What's next for Evee Group Bookings

Evee will continue to iterate upon the seller dashboard as well as integration with Evee’s existing suite of buyer-side tooling. There’s so much opportunity to enable merchants to better connect with new and existing customers alike, especially in the context of larger group events!
