Inspiration
Post-pandemic, as the number of online shoppers increase, we wanted to develop a website that helps users purchase the correct product for them in an easy fashion. In a time where more and more sellers may have inaccurate product descriptions, leaving more and more people dissatisfied with their purchase, we felt that Evalumate could not only provide a way to limit the number of unsatisfied customers, but also make online shopping an easier task in general.
What it does
Evalumate is a demo website design prototype that allows users to thoroughly compare products from the same or different sellers and brands from online retailers with ease (e.g. Amazon, Ebay, Etsy, etc.). Instead of having to navigate multiple websites simultaneously, a complete description of each product can be found right here on one screen. All users have to do is copy and paste the link of the product into our website’s search function.
The website would also generate a detailed pros and cons list of each product entered, using artificial intelligence. This will be done by reading multiple reviews of the product, and based on what is commonly said and commented on in the reviews, Evalumate will conclude with a pros and cons list of the quality and characteristics of different aspects of a product.
How we built it
We used Figma to create the design prototype of our website. It is not fully functional at the moment and doesn’t sustain user interaction or have any code for front-end or back-end.
Challenges we ran into
Learning how to use Figma for the first time was difficult, considering our time constraints with the project as well. Having to manage creating a prototype for Evalumate alongside a full day robotics competition was pretty challenging for all of our team members.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of completing our first hackathon! We also also proud of learning how to use Figma, even though it seems like a simple concept to grasp. We are also proud of having completed the design aspect of Evalumate, hence, being preoccupied for the entire weekend. We’re glad to have participated in the hackathon, well-knowing we had other commitments to tend to simultaneously.
What we learned
We learned how to use Figma! We also realized that designing a website requires time and patience. We also learned that actually coding the front-end of a website would take a lot more time than a website design prototype.
What's next for Evalumate
We really hope to continue with Evalumate and implement an actual front-end and back-end to this website design prototype, with HTML, CSS, and Java. We hope to make Evalumate accept user interaction and hope to learn more about artificial intelligence and different algorithms, and how we can implement them in the future!
