Inspiration

Over 25 years ago I wrote my first version of this game in Java. I have rewritten it dozens of times in dozens of languages since then and it is still fun to this day.

What it does

Players take turns placing markers to create squares. The larger the square the more points are made. A player can block the other player's square by placing their own marker on one of the corners. Game on!

How I built it

I ported my original Java version to reddit's devvit platform using React and the devvit api.

Challenges I ran into

I have not written in typescript before, only pure javascript. This took me the longest

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The game is just as much fun to play as it ever was. And I've never added two-player human-v-human tothe game before and it is fantastically more fun!

What I learned

I learned how to use the devvit api and to program in typescript and how much I still love this game lol

What's next for Euclid

~I am currently working to adding the use of redis to enable human-vs-human play!~ Correction: Working!!! 😄

Totally rewrote the AI to use a unified approach and it is soo much better! Added a new "Brutal" mode when playing against the computer and refactored the "Offensive", "Defensive" and "Casual" modes to use the new single unified approach. Added activity glint when waiting for another player. Fixed server side queue issue. Even better than it was!
