Project Description
Etnopedia had a database including many newly added people groups from India and Southeast Asia. However, this database included multiple entries for many people groups that Etnopedia wanted consolidated into one combined entry per people group. This would allow these newly added people groups to be mapped and profiled in order to inform Christians taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ to unreached people groups.
Accomplishments
We were able to consolidate these entries as desired and provide an updated Excel spreadsheet to Etnopedia. We also were able to pick up around a dozen data irregularities that Etnopedia will be able to investigate by hand.
To do this, the database was dumped to a CSV file and a python script was written to process the data. The processed data was then re-imported into Excel.
In the end, this would have taken several months of work by hand for Etnopedia, and we were able to write this script in a few hours.
Future Work
We have provided the updated Excel spreadsheet to Etnopedia and offered to provide additional support should slight modifications be needed.
