Inspiration

I am at Hello Alexa training in London. We are learning how to create skills. I figured I would kill two birds with one stone; go through the training exercises and submit to the hackathon.

What it does

Gentle reminders of how to be courteous and mindful of others.

How I built it

go to dev site 1.) create new skill, custom interaction model, language (english uk), name (Etiquette), invocation name (Etiquette), 2.) copy and paste the json object for the intent schema 3.) skip custom option 4.) enter your sample utterances 5.) choose AWS lambda - Europe get the arn a unique name for our function

go to aws site 1.) search for lambda 2.) create a lambda function 3.) filter for alexa skills kit sdk fact skill 4.) set up a trigger (event to invoke a function) by clicking the grey box, hit next 5.) name it (myEtiquette) 6.) create new role from template, name the role (basic-execution-role), choose simple microservices 7.) copy the arn and past into dev site (see previous step 5)

Challenges I ran into

contractions in my code caused me problems. I changed the wording to do not instead of don't

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I think it is a good mix of simplicity with usefulness

What I learned

How to build an Alexa Skill

What's next for Etiquette

More suggestions and culturally relevant suggestions in different languages
