Inspiration
Ethical dilemmas in today's world, AI decisions, political conflicts, healthcare, and justice often ignore the rich, moral wisdom of global religions. ETHOSCORE AI is born from the idea that technology can learn not only from data but from humanity’s diverse ethical traditions, promoting inclusive, explainable, and culturally aware decision-making.
What it does
ETHOSCORE AI analyzes real-world dilemmas (like AI in warfare or whistleblowing) and scores them based on religious ethical principles. It uses teachings from Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, and Sikhism, mapped to universal values like Justice, Compassion, and Sanctity of Life. The output includes:
Ethics Score (per religion + average) Justifications with scripture references Suggestions for moral improvement
How we built it
Data Collection & Structuring: Collect religious texts, ethical guidelines, and scholarly interpretations. Map teachings to ethical dimensions and assign baseline scores to representative scenarios.
Scenario Encoding: Encode dilemmas into structured data, capturing context, stakeholders, actions, and outcomes.
NLP & Feature Extraction: Use natural language processing to identify key ethical values present in new dilemmas.
Ethics Score Prediction: Apply machine learning or rule-based models to estimate scores per religion per scenario, based on similarity to known cases.
Explain ability Layer: Link scores with textual rationales drawn from religious principles to justify assessments.
User Interaction: Enable users to input new dilemmas, receive ethics scores, explanations, and scenario comparisons.
Challenges we ran into
Finding reliable, universal interpretations of religious teachings Designing a fair scoring mechanism for diverse ethical views Normalizing ethics across very different worldviews Ensuring respectful, unbiased use of religious texts
Next Step
Finalize and validate datasets with religious scholars and ethicists. Develop initial AI prototype for ethics score prediction. Build a user-friendly dashboard for scenario input and ethics report visualization. Pilot with real-world ethical dilemmas in governance, AI, and social contexts. Collect feedback for refinement and expansion.
