Ethos: Software to track health and happiness for K-12 kids

Inspiration

As Asian-American students, we are familiar with the difficulty of bringing up mental health in front of our parents. In fact, school was the best place to confide since we knew of other students who understood us. However, the education system is run by adults who may not completely understand their students' situations. So we created a software that creates a holistic view of each individual student, pulling together grades, teacher feedback, and student opinions and happiness. In this way, we are able to measure their mental health and whether their learning is optimized. This data is presented via a data dashboard seen by the counselors, who can take action and intervene using this information. We hope that students will utilize this software to most benefit their education and make school a safe and welcoming environment.

What it does

We created a website that would host the software and added descriptions as to what each entity would submit. Using the data provided, our software would create a data dashboard and automatically find irregularities in individual students, identifying them as currently at risk or potentially at risk. This way, the counselors can provide interventions and support the student's needs. This way, each student can achieve their maximum potential in school.

How we built it

We used Figma to create the website, and we created examples of the surveys/forms/dashboards using google forms.

Challenges we ran into

We wished that we could have implemented a model for this submission, but we ran out of time to create a working model that would predict students at risk. We instead used google forms to show an example of what the form should look like with the software.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We aren't designers, but we believe that we put the UI together well and that we communicated our ideas thoroughly for the judges to understand what the software entails.
