Inspiration:

Many women and children in specific regions of Africa have limited access to healthcare. There are security risks preventing health care professionals (HCPs) from travelling to some regions and there are barriers to patients travelling including cost, childcare responsibilities and security concerns. Some regions in Africa have dangerous shortages of HCPs which are well below global averages. HCPs that have left Africa often experience challenges getting licensed and securing employment despite being licensed to practice in regions of Africa. A virtual healthcare app will allow patients to connect to HCPs from all over the world as well as regions with oversupply of HCPs.

What it does:

Allows HCPs to indicate when they are available for appointments and their skills ands specializations. Allows patients to book and attend appointments with HCPs and access insured benefit funding if available. Manages medical records and communications.

How we built it:

Built a web based admin platform and patient app integrating various Cloud partners.

Challenges we ran into:

Managing requirements of different stakeholders and keeping the app simple and easy to use.

Accomplishments that we're proud of:

Creating a platform that will allow many with no access to healthcare services to connect to HCPs. This platform will save lives and promote health living. We created strong relationships with local partners in Nigeria to implement the project and ensure success. We will be working with industry and government partners.

What we learned:

Cloud services can be leveraged to create solutions to solve access challenges. User feedback is the key to success!

What's next for Ethnomet Virtual Healthcare PlatformL

We are looking into other devices and systems to integrate with the platform to bring more services and improve the health of the users.
