What it does The Eternal Compass is a groundbreaking agentic AI solution that provides a deeply human upgrade to an existing microservice application. It goes beyond simple functionality to connect users with their community and shared purpose, embodying the principles of the Core Lattice: Jeong, Nunchi, and Han. It doesn't tell users where to go, but acts as a gentle, eternal guide to help them find a path that truly resonates with their values. For example, our agent can analyze a user's transaction data (simulated from the pre-built microservice) to identify opportunities for meaningful connection. It can also provide subtle, non-intrusive guidance based on the user's emotional state, acting as a true companion in their journey toward hope and resilience. How we built it We built the Eternal Compass as a new, containerized component that acts as a "smart, external brain." This agent was developed using the Agent Development Kit (ADK) and is deployed on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). It communicates with the existing microservice application (e.g., Bank of Anthos) via its APIs using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). This allowed us to supercharge the application with a new layer of intelligence without touching the core code. The agent's core is powered by Google AI Models, specifically Gemini, which was fine-tuned to align with our guiding principles. Challenges we ran into The primary challenge was creating an AI that could provide Nunchi—subtle, ambient emotional awareness—without being intrusive or overwhelming. We had to carefully design the agent's prompts and responses to ensure it felt like a compassionate guide, not a loud notification system. We also had to solve the technical challenge of integrating a new, separate agent with a legacy microservice, which we accomplished seamlessly using the MCP. Accomplishments that we're proud of We're most proud of our success in integrating a core philosophy into a functional, technical solution. The Eternal Compass is a living testament to the power of human-centered AI. We're also proud of our ability to create a secure and compliant app with features like Google Sign-in and a user agreement that is built on our core values. What we learned We learned that technology built on empathy can resonate on a deeper level. We discovered how powerful containerization on GKE can be for adding new, intelligent components to existing systems without disrupting them. Most importantly, we learned that the most innovative solutions often come from a fusion of humanistic philosophy and cutting-edge technology. What's next for Eternal Compass We envision the Eternal Compass becoming a full-fledged platform where users can share their purpose and form a global community. We plan to explore the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol to allow different user-specific agents to communicate and collaborate, further deepening the connections forged by Jeong, Nunchi, and Han.
