Inspiration
The situation that affected us in the process of producing this project was the unemployment rate of South African women. In South Africa, there is a women's unemployment rate of 34.3% with a rising trend in the fourth quarter of 2020. In addition, in a city like Zimbabwe, which trades citrus to the outside world, the potential of making the waste piece of citrus fruit usable inspired us.
What it does
In fact, the product we designed will be used jointly by open design and women who will produce. It will enable women to produce essential oil without spending too much energy. We are planning to use collaborative spirit.
How we built it
All controls can be easily controlled by women thanks to mechanical support. Nothing requires electricity or water.
Challenges we ran into
Our challenge here was to design the whole process in accordance with the minimum cost and sustainability.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We do not need water in the production process. We are proud of our project as we encourage the inclusion of women in the business areas and follow a completely sustainable way in the packaging of the product.
What we learned
Here we learned about the difficulties women face in finding a job in South Africa. While it has become much more difficult for women to find a job, especially in the post-corona period, it has been the main subject of our project to include women in the field of essential oil, which is popular in this process.
What's next for ETD (Embrace The Diversity)
As a first step, we encourage the press essential oil production from citrus fruits. Before going to restaurants to be delivered from local production sites, these citrus fruits are made to use their peels for essential oil by visiting ETD. The future plan is to add other essential oils to the production under sustainable conditions in the project. For example, the use of rainwater for lavender oil, which is expected to be produced with water, is among our future plans. And also ETD can collaborate with hospitals and care centers in the future. #FromAfricanWomenToWorld
