Inspiration Witnessing how delayed medical responses and fragmented information cost lives in emergencies inspired Eswa_SecureID. We wanted to bridge the critical gap between instant identity verification, complete health data, and secure public safety alerts.
What it does Eswa_SecureID is a secure digital identity platform. It provides emergency personnel instant, role-based access to a citizen's verified identity, critical medical history, and essential alerts via a scannable QR code on wearable jewelry, ensuring care continues seamlessly from the street to the hospital.
How we built it We designed a centralized, secure database with strict role-based access controls. It integrates via APIs with verified government registries (national ID, health, law enforcement). The front-end consists of a citizen mobile app for registration and professional portals for authorized personnel, all built with a focus on security and audit trails.
Challenges we ran into Our biggest challenge was ethical design, balancing rapid emergency access with data privacy and medical neutrality. Technically, ensuring seamless, secure interoperability between disparate government databases and designing a reliable, affordable wearable form factor were significant hurdles.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We pioneered a practical, integrated model that uniquely connects healthcare and law enforcement for public safety. Creating a functional prototype with a working access-control system and a clear blueprint for navigating complex data protection regulations are key achievements.
What we learned We learned that technology is only 30% of the solution. Success hinges on proactive stakeholder engagement, building public trust through transparency, and designing with ethical constraints from the start, not as an afterthought.
What's next for Eswa_SecureID Next steps include seeking ethical review board approval, running a controlled pilot with first responders, and engaging with regional bodies to develop the interoperability standards needed for scaling across East Africa.
