Inspiration
LookLock was inspired by a simple word: safety. We are bringing cutting-edge technology to home safety right at the point of entry.
What it does
LookLock uses the peephole of the door to recognize and ensure that only authorized users are entering the door, and that the homeowner is aware of any possible issues regarding break-ins.
How we built it
Using Raspberry Pi, Python, and SolidWorks, we were able to implement a camera, microphone, and speaker system to maximize the safety of LookLock's system.
Challenges we ran into
At first, we found it extremely difficult to implement LookLock's facial recognition technology. However, by staying engaged and facing our issues one at a time, our team was able to overcome our facial recognition issues and successfully implement them into LookLock.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of LookLock's facial recognition and data saving technology. These two aspects were certainly the most difficult of all of LookLock's implementations, and so it was satisfying to have both of those aspects working correctly.
What we learned
Through LookLock, we learned mainly about how far software can take certain hardware components. At essence, LookLock is simply a camera, a microphone, and a speaker. However, thanks to our microcontroller and software, we were able to make a relatively sophisticated and useful piece of technology.
What's next for ESE1110 Team 14: LookLock
For LookLock, some logical next steps would be more impressive housing, a better microphone/camera, and some sort of GUI interface so the owner can receive intruder information from the ease of an app.
