We wanted to capture moments authentically from a different lens. Our project, Poetry Camera, is a handheld, Raspberry-Pi 5 powered device that turns any captured image into an instant generative poem. When the user presses the shutter button, the camera takes a photo, analyzes the scene using a camera module, and sends the extracted features to an AI language model. Within a few seconds, the device prints an original poem on thermal receipt paper using an onboard thermal printer.
The system supports multiple poem “modes" which the user can toggle through a simple analog slider input. All computation and printing happen locally on the device, creating a fully contained creative device that blends hardware, software, and AI.
