Inspiration

I loved grappling hooks growing up because of games like Zelda. I always thought it'd be fun if I could implement a game with a hook.

What it does

An infinite, grappling, and dodging game where you endeavor to bring Max, the robot, safely back to his spaceship. Traverse across flying meteors by skillfully swiping in the direction of the meteors all while dodging incoming fireballs. Collect coins along the way to save up for cool skins in the shop. As Max progresses further and further, the obstacle before him becomes increasingly harder.

How I built it

I spent 8 weeks at a summer academy called Make School to learn how to use swift to make my own game.

Challenges I ran into

I had problems with scroll layers all working together. Procedural generation of the rocks, coins, and fireballs was difficult. I also had problems with the hook to work properly.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud of the amount of effort I paid attention to the little details of this game.

What I learned

Too much. I learned a lot about SpriteKit and am now comfortable and confident to build my own games independently.

What's next for EscapeTheFall

I need to implement a functioning shop.
