Many do not appraise water since its scarcity mainly impacts third world countries. This is where we took inspiration to create Escape to Indiana, this game illustrates the struggle of obtaining fresh, clean consumable water as well as being an interactive resource for learning exactly what lead to Flint's major water crisis. Although being in a first world country, Flint, Michigan to this day is dealing with elevated lead levels in their tap water. In this game, you follow a Flint native on their adventure to getting bottled water and fighting against those polluting the waters.

This game has many components! Everybody worked extremely hard on perfecting the aesthetic of the game. Making sure we could perfectly animate the walking of the sprite was something we took extra time on. We used various images found on Google Images and even looked up a few questions we had on the boarders of the game, picture alignment as well as finding how to input sounds in places best suitable. We edited some of our images to make them transparent so they could fit right into the game seamlessly and flipped images so we could have animations of characters running or walking back and forth. This game was coded using Scratch, some of us had some prior experience using Scratch so we used this to our advantage in building the atmosphere for the game.

As a team it was difficult to identify our separate skillsets, we all know how to code but Scratch was foreign to some of us. Finding out how to balance loads of work was our biggest challenge during the Hackathon. It was a bumpy start but then we quickly recognized the issue and had a brief meeting where we discussed how we could all contribute to the creation of our informative game. Additionally, the time that was given was a stress of the entire team. A sense of self-doubt filled us all as time came closer and closer but we supported each other through validation and constant check-ins of who has done what and what is needed to be done.

We all are really proud of each other for being able to adapt to huge change in our game design. It is great to be a part of such a flexible team, although we did not all know how to code in Scratch, we were all very willing to learn in such a short span of time. Our ability to be resilient after multiple issues in our coding makes us all very proud of each other that we kept pushing!

The Hackathon taught us all that we must be able to transfer work loads and roles with ease as changes are made in our project, it also made us value each other opinions and say on certain aspects of the project.

We would love to build on Escape To Indiana to expand on the different levels. We would love to raise awareness on multiple other countries that are facing issues with their water. In these other levels we would create more obstacles based on the country, taking money and environment into mind. Along with new levels, we want to have a list of resources for the audience to view and give back to the country in need in terms of donating or signing petitions.
