Inspiration
We were inspired our own experiences as neurodivergent people, by an interest in accessibility, and by a desire to improve accessibility in urban environments.
What it does
Escape Space is a web page that allows the user to select whether they are currently overstimulated by light, noise, or both, and they will be given directions to the nearest location in Troy, NY that will provide a space away from that source of overstimulation (e.g. a nearby park for those who are overstimulated by noise). There is also an emergency option for those who are feeling unsafe, that will provide directions to the nearest space in Troy, NY with people (e.g. Samaritan Hospital).
How we built it
We built this project using HTML, CSS and Javascript on VSCode.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges we faced included teaching ourselves to use HTML, CSS and Javascript without prior experience and struggling to work with the Google Maps API.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to build a custom web page without any prior experience doing so.
What we learned
We have learned a lot about accessibility, working with HTML, CSS and Javascript, working with APIs, and working with GitHub.
What's next for Escape Space
We would like to expand on current features and add more safe spaces to select from.
