Inspiration

We really enjoy escape rooms, and we've also noticed that there are many problems in the world that need to be fixed. So, we merged the two ideas to create an escape room in which you have to answer questions about these problems to receive keys to escape.

What it does

In our hack you start in the living room, and have to answer questions about deforestation, overfishing, carbon emissions, and water crisis. If you answer the questions correctly, you get to move on to the next room. However, if you answer too many questions incorrectly, you are stuck in the room until your neighbor comes and deals with you.

How we built it

We first started off by creating a blueprint of what the escape room should look like. We then decided which problems we wanted to interpret into our code. We later created a list of everything we wanted to include in our project, and then typed everything in Visual Studio Code.

Challenges we ran into

There were multiple confusing moments in our project, as we were all on different levels, and couldn't decided whether we should use block coding or python. By the time we'd decided, an hour had passed, and we hadn't gotten started. Also, there were multiple bugs in our code, one of which was particularly time consuming, as it took 45 minutes to solve, even with the help of organizers

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of ourselves for creating such an elaborate code in the time we had. We have never created such a project with such minimal help and guidance, as well as a pitch for it. This is our first hackathon as well, so we were impressed with our end result.

What we learned

We learned how to work as a team, and how to recognize and address bugs in our programs. Also, we figured out how to create a project when not all of us could code that comfortably.

What's next for Escape Room Hack

We want hope that our Escape Room Hack will encourage people take action on the problems our Earth is facing, even if they're small acts. This was the purpose of us incorporating environmental issues in our code.
