Inspiration
We wanted to capture the tension and thrill of classic escape films, blending quick planning, close calls, and bursts of action into a short, replayable mobile experience. Games like Among Us inspired the social and stealth elements, merging cinematic tension with fast, accessible multiplayer gameplay.
What it does
Escape From Alcatraz is a mobile-first stealth puzzle game where up to 8 players launch 5–7 minute “escape runs.” Players choose routes like vents, tunnels, guardroom-keycards, etc, while evading guards, solving quick puzzles, and racing to freedom. The design keeps every escape unique and unpredictable.
How we built it
We developed the game entirely inside Meta's Horizon Worlds Desktop Editor, using TypeScript and the scripting API to prototype, polish gameplay, logic, and AI behavior.
Challenges we ran into
Adapting to the Horizon Editor’s evolving tools brought frequent technical hurdles, but our game dev experience helped us troubleshoot quickly and keep progress steady.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a stylized, replayable stealth game optimized for short mobile sessions. Rapid prototyping in engine and achieving smooth multiplayer synchronization.
What we learned
We learned how to simplify complex stealth gameplay into short, dynamic loops suitable for casual players. We also deepened our understanding of procedural content generation, mobile UX, and understanding of social behavior in multiplayer design environments.
What's next for Escape From Alcatraz
Expand with new escape routes . Add seasonal cosmetic unlocks and more challenges to drive replayability.
