Inspiration

Science should be explored, not just memorized.

Unfortunately, many students have limited access to laboratory equipment, and many scientific concepts—such as planetary motion, electric fields, light propagation, gravity, and astronomy—cannot be experienced in a traditional classroom.

As someone passionate about both physics and software development, I wanted to build a platform that allows students to interact with science instead of only reading about it.

That vision became Esbiko, an interactive virtual science laboratory where learners can explore, experiment, and discover scientific concepts directly in their web browser.


What it does

Esbiko is an interactive browser-based platform that transforms science education through real-time simulations.

Students can explore topics such as:

  • Physics
  • Optics
  • Gravity
  • Electricity
  • Waves
  • Astronomy
  • Solar System
  • Orbital Mechanics

Instead of watching static animations or reading textbooks, users interact with simulations, modify parameters, observe outcomes, and build intuition through experimentation.

The platform is designed to make science engaging, visual, and accessible from any modern web browser without requiring installation.


How we built it

Esbiko is built using modern web technologies including:

  • React
  • TypeScript
  • Three.js
  • React Three Fiber
  • Firebase
  • Material UI
  • Framer Motion

Throughout development, GPT-5.6 and OpenAI Codex became valuable development partners.

Codex significantly accelerated the development process by helping implement new features, generate and refactor code, solve technical challenges, review architecture, improve components, and speed up the creation of new interactive simulations.

By reducing development time and assisting with complex implementation tasks, these AI tools allowed more focus on educational design, scientific accuracy, and user experience.


Challenges we ran into

Developing interactive scientific simulations inside a browser is challenging.

Scientific accuracy must be balanced with performance, usability, and visual quality.

Rendering complex 3D scenes while maintaining smooth performance across different devices required continuous optimization.

Designing simulations that are educational, intuitive, and enjoyable for students also required many iterations and careful testing.


Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have created a growing collection of interactive science simulations that students can explore directly in their browser.

Esbiko combines physics, astronomy, and interactive visualization into a single educational platform.

It demonstrates how modern web technologies and AI-assisted development can be combined to create engaging educational experiences that are accessible anywhere.


What we learned

Building educational software is about much more than writing code.

We learned that effective learning experiences require balancing scientific accuracy, interaction design, accessibility, performance, and visual storytelling.

We also learned how AI-assisted development can dramatically increase productivity.

Using GPT-5.6 and Codex allowed us to iterate much faster, explore more ideas, improve software quality, and spend more time designing meaningful educational experiences instead of repetitive implementation work.


What's next for Esbiko – Interactive Virtual Science Lab

This is only the beginning.

Our vision is to transform Esbiko into a complete interactive science education platform.

Future plans include:

  • AI-assisted learning experiences
  • Teacher dashboards
  • Classroom management tools
  • Student progress tracking
  • More STEM simulations
  • Better mobile experience
  • More astronomy and physics content

One of our biggest goals is to empower teachers and students to create their own interactive simulations without needing advanced programming knowledge.

Instead of only using simulations created by us, educators will be able to build, customize, and share their own interactive learning experiences with their classrooms.

We believe this can transform Esbiko from a collection of simulations into a collaborative platform where educators, students, and creators continuously expand the library of interactive science content together.
